Holistic Treatment Centers

Programs combining clinical care with complementary wellness services where offered.

Programs described as holistic or integrative may combine standard substance-use treatment with complementary wellness services such as mindfulness, yoga, nutrition, exercise, art, music, acupuncture, or other activities. The term 'holistic' does not by itself indicate a specific clinical standard, level of care, or evidence base. Ask which services are delivered by licensed clinicians, which are complementary, what evidence-based treatment is provided for the substance-use disorder, and whether any wellness service has medical risks or additional costs. Complementary services should not substitute for appropriate medical or behavioral-health treatment.

What to expect from holistic

  • Clinical treatment plus complementary wellness services where offered
  • Mindfulness, yoga, or meditation depending on the program
  • Nutrition, fitness, or stress-management services where available
  • Optional complementary services that vary by facility
