Faith-Based Treatment Centers

Programs that may integrate religious or spiritual practices with treatment or recovery support.

Faith-based programs may integrate spiritual or religious practices with substance-use treatment or recovery support. The clinical services, religious traditions, staffing, costs, and level of care vary widely. If you want faith-integrated care, ask which activities are optional or required, whether licensed clinicians provide treatment, what evidence-based services are offered, and how the program accommodates people whose beliefs differ from its primary tradition. Spiritual support can be meaningful to some people, but it should not be assumed to replace appropriate medical or behavioral-health care.

What to expect from faith-based

  • Clinical treatment alongside spiritual support where both are offered
  • Religious activities that may be optional or required depending on the program
  • Peer or recovery groups that vary by tradition and facility
  • Faith-community involvement where available
